Your website can be accessed from any computer connected to the internet. This allows you to make updates from home or school as often as you wish. Schoolsitesuk makes it easy for you to update and maintain your site as you need very little technical knowledge to do so. Anyone with basic ICT skills can run one of our websites. You can simply cut and paste text onto your website from, for example, a Word document.
There are several different types of pages. You can choose which of these make up your site. Once we have set your site up we will give you a username and password which you will then use to access your site.
Accessing your site
To access your school's website you will need a username and password. Simply go to the admin home page and type these in. Please note that you will need a browser that accepts cookies to access the admin screens. If this is a problem we will be happy to update your browser to enable all subscribing schools to access the admin for their school. Once logged in you will then be able to edit and update any of the pages for your school. There are four different types of pages that work in different ways.
Text Pages
A text page allows you to create a page using both text and images. Examples may include a school newsletter. Once you've chosen the page you want to update, simply cut and paste from any text document and hit update. Images can be added here and linked to any section of text you wish.
Diary Pages
This allows you to create an online diary with the minimum of fuss. Simply choose a date and time from a list, type a description and click 'Add Event'. Events will automatically be listed in date order. It couldn't be simpler.
Kids Work Pages
When we set up your site, we will include a kids work page for each class at your school. It is here that teachers can showcase the work going on in their classroom. The work you show can be just text, just images or a mixture of both. Each teacher can have a number of pages so they can display, for example, both literacy and humanities work. If there is now work for a particular class then that page will not be displayed. This avoids your site having pages with no content.
Links pages
Sometimes it's useful to have links to other pages on the internet. This can be a valuable educational resource for pupils and can provide useful links to education sites for parents. Links can placed in categories to make the list of links more ordered and useful. To add a link simply type in the websites address, add a title / description and click 'Add link'.
Security issues
Every effort is made to ensure that your site is safe and secure. It is the school's responsibility to ensure that only those people with direct responsibility for updating and maintaining the site know the username and password. If you suspect any breach of security, you should report it to us immediately and we will issue a new username and password.
